What to Expect
With every session, from the first focus of my camera to the final tweak in post processing, I aim to create an emotional, authentic and vibrant image. I rely on capturing genuine connection between my subjects and tell their honest story in an artistic way. Each individual has an unique personality and when you are in front of my lens, I strive to bring out the unexpected, silly, or meaningful moments that make you and your family like no other. My style in a nutshell can be described as "directed photojournalism." This means I strive to find a balance between the authentic care free moments and the guided, with attention paid to the composition of an image and the essence of whom I am photographing.
Most portrait sessions take place on location with natural light. We will have a consultation about your desires for the session and determine the best location for the session to be conducted. If you are seeking a more lifestyle/documentary approach to your photos, we can conduct the session in the comfort of your own home. I also have a studio available for newborns and small children as well.
If children are involved, it is important to schedule a session when your child is happiest, however, keep in mind for an outdoor session, the lighting is best in the early morning after sunrise, and approximately 1-2 hours prior to sunset in the afternoon--usually referred to as the "golden hour," and is my personal favorite. If your session is indoors, we will schedule it for the best time of day to receive natural light filtered into the room. Studio timing does not have a set time besides needing to be during daylight hours.
In order to schedule a session, a $100 non refundable retainer is required to secure your selected date/time/location. This retainer applies towards your total collection amount due. The retainer is non refundable, however, is transferrable if you should need to reschedule your session. You are able to apply your retainer to one reschedule at your discretion as long as it follows The Lovely Rose Cancellation and Reschedule Policy which will be detailed in your session contract. In the case of inclement weather or an emergency on behalf of the photographer, the retainer will be obtained for a rescheduled session. Once your retainer is paid, we can have a consulation via email/text/phone-whichever is easiest for you. This will help determine location, exact timing, and your individual desires for the session. All sessions require a signed contract agreement for service and this will be required prior to sending any retainer or payment.
Sessions vary in length depending on the selected collection, however, I design my collections around estimated time frames. I work until I feel I have achieved your completed collection. Sometimes this is faster then estimated, as I work particularly fast with little kids who have short attention spans, and sometimes it means we have to spend a little more time trying to achieve the full collection. Regarding children, I have found that if we take too much time, kids fall apart and adults get worn out. I'll interact with the family by acting silly, playing games, singing songs and using a few tricks I've learned to bring out the most candid smiles and emotion for your images. I usually obtain all the shots in the first half of the session, so if kiddos melt down halfway through, we already have what we need. The second half of the shoot is for variety and candids.
In the days and weeks following your session, you can expect a sneak peek of 1-2 images via my social media platforms of Facebook and Instagram. From there, I create the final product of your images through a detailed hand editing process. Edits include color and exposure correction, sharpening, noise reduction, tone curve adjustment, a light eye and skin adjustment and an artistic edit. I value high end work and strive to consistently deliver premier products. Completed galleries will be delivered within 2-3 weeks depending on the session itself. At the end of the session you will be provided with an estimated time line.
You will receive your gallery via a private link provided via email. In this gallery, you are able to select your favorite images, and add additional images, prints and products into your cart. When you have selected your favorites, you will receive instructions on how to complete the download of your digital images. Any digital images included in your collection or purchased additionally will be covered by a print release. This allows you to print at the lab or company of your choice. You may order prints and products through your gallery directly as well. You are able to share your gallery link with friends and family and they too can order products directly from the gallery.
If you selected a Premier or specialty collection, you will also receive a video slideshow of your images via a link provided. These are shareable via your individual social media if you wish. If your gallery specifies including a digital design, a link to a gallery of design choices will be provided to you. Examples of these are Facebook timeline covers, card designs, announcements, and various other digital products. If you would like a custom digital design, this is available at an additional charge.
